Calvary Chapel Dominates Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH — Calvary Chapel used its running game to defeat Laguna Beach, 50-13, in a nonleague game Friday at Laguna Beach High.
Eagle running back Keith Short led all rushers with 179 yards and three touchdowns in 16 carries. He also completed a pass to Armando Lucero, who took it 55 yards for a score.
Calvary Chapel (3-0-1) controlled the clock by keeping the ball on the ground through most of the game, rushing for 323 yards.
The Eagles took a 6-0 lead on a two-yard run by Short. They blew the game open in the second quarter, scoring 31 points, including two touchdown passes and a 54-yard interception return by Mark Scheerer to take a 37-0 lead at the half.
Calvary Chapel scored twice more on touchdown runs by Short from 10 yards and Adam Benitez from one yard.
Laguna Beach (0-4) avoided a shutout with two touchdown passes by Ryan Schissler, one to Matt Hellewell from seven yards and one to R.C. Buist from 23 yards.
Schissler was one of the bright spots for the Artists, completing 20 of 38 passes for 236 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
