The major-league baseball playoffs are in full swing, but top minor-league players are beginning off-season schedules in Hawaii and Arizona. Only big-league prospects are invited. Three Detroit Tigers farmhands--Bryan Corey (Pierce College), Robert Fick (Cal State Northridge), and Gabe Kapler (Taft High)--will room together while playing in the Hawaiian Winter Baseball League.
Fight at First
Fullmer will battle another familiar first baseman for the Expos’ starting job next year. Ryan McGuire (El Camino Real High) batted .256 for the Expos.
Best at First
Four first basemen with Valley ties were selected as minor-league all-stars: Kevin Millar of Encino in the Eastern League, Nate Dishington of Hoover High in the Carolina League, Andy Dominique of Alemany High in the New York-Penn League and Fick in the Midwest League.
