SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Los Alamitos offensive juggernaut lit up the scoreboard again Thursday and the Griffins, ranked fifth in Orange County, rolled past Long Beach Wilson, 48-26, at Gahr High.

Los Alamitos quarterback Zach Blazek completed 15 of 20 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns, and that was just in the first half. He finished 18 of 25 for 293 yards and also scored on a 10-yard run late in the fourth quarter.

Keenan Howry caught 12 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown and Austin Guyness and Ryan Godfrey each caught 11-yard scoring passes from Blazek.

The Griffins’ leading receiver entering the game, Brad Havens, had three catches for 60 yards, but led the team in rushing with 52 yards in five carries, all on reverses. He also scored on runs of 16 and seven yards.

About the only concern raised in the victory for Los Alamitos (5-0) was the production of the ground game for Wilson (1-4).

Lejuan Edwards rushed for 262 yards in 35 carries and scored two touchdowns and Sipao Isiaih rushed for 108 yards in 16 carries. Edwards also had a 78-yard touchdown run called back because of a clipping penalty.

“What did that guy have, about 400 yards rushing tonight?” Los Alamitos offensive coordinator Barry Sher wondered.

Although Wilson moved the ball well on the ground, it didn’t have any balance. Quarterback Luis Brambila completed only one of nine passes for 11 yards. Edwards had the only reception for the Bruins and it came with 53 seconds remaining in the game.

Despite Edwards’ big night, Los Alamitos Coach John Barnes was still pleased. “I’m only real concerned,” he said, “if he rushes for more touchdowns than we do.”

Of more concern were the Griffins’ four fumbles, two of which two they lost inside the Bruins’ five.

One fumble was returned 98 yards for a touchdown by Wilson’s Travis Hanks, giving the Bruins the lead, 14-7, with 4 minutes 34 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

But Los Alamitos scored touchdowns on its next four possessions to take control.
