Ice Dogs Prevail in a Shootout
The Ice Dogs posted their third victory in as many days, beating the Utah Grizzlies, 2-1, in a shootout Sunday at the Long Beach Sports Arena.
Kay Whitmore, who had a shutout Friday night, gave up only one goal to the Grizzlies (2-2-1), stopping 19 of 20 shots and shutting down the league’s top power play unit on all seven chances.
In the shootout, Whitmore stopped three of five skaters, while Ice Dogs Patrik Augusta, Denis Tsygurov and Dan Lambert connected for Long Beach.
Fred Knipscher scored Utah’s lone goal. Stephane Morin scored the Ice Dogs’ other goal.
