Donations Sought for Mexican Orphanage
Saddleback College professor Robert Kopfstein began taking food and supplies to a Mexican orphanage 13 years ago in his 1971 Volkswagen van.
Now the provisions for La Puerta de Fe (The Door of Faith) have grown so great that he needs a large delivery truck.
The faculty association of South Orange County Community College District has become the orphanage’s single largest donor.
On Saturday, Kopfstein and others will make their second trip this year, taking about $1,000 in donations to buy fresh food for about 75 orphans, many placed there because they were abandoned or taken from homes where they were abused.
Organizers are still seeking donations of clothing, cleaning and medical supplies, school materials, bedding, towels and personal hygiene items such as soap and toothbrushes.
Additionally, cash contributions are sought to buy bulk materials such as oatmeal.
Information: Robert Kopfstein (714) 582-4827 or Lee Walker (714) 582-4847.
