Sunny Hills quarterback Jared Bruce’s 50-yard touchdown pass to David Goodloe with 35 seconds remaining helped the Lancers defeated Buena Park, 6-3, in a Freeway League game Friday night at Buena Park High School.

Trailing, 3-0, with 3 minutes 14 seconds left in the game, Bruce guided Sunny Hills (5-1, 1-0) from its 20-yard line. On third and six from midfield, Bruce hit Goodloe, who wrestled the ball away from a Coyote defender.

“This type of game didn’t surprise me,” Sunny Hills Coach Tim Devaney said. “In this league, anything can happen. There is no love lost in this rivalry. They outplayed us for most of the game. This game could have went down on either side of the fence.”

Buena Park (1-5, 0-1), whose secondary was burned for the second consecutive week by a long touchdown pass, appeared to be on its way to victory after Florin Gociu kicked a 32-yard field goal with 7:51 remaining in the game. Gociu missed a 42-yard attempt with 3:18 left.

The Coyotes squandered two scoring chances in the first half when running back Brian McDonald fumbled twice.
