Michael Bishop had the limp. Texas A&M; felt the pain.

Despite an injured right ankle, Bishop led three second-half scoring drives and No. 20 Kansas State smothered No. 14 Texas A&M;, 36-17, Saturday in a Big 12 Conference game at Manhattan, Kan.

Bishop, who set Big 12 and school records with 196 yards rushing last week against Missouri, hurt his right ankle late in the second quarter and left the game.

But he came back at the start of the second half to lead the Wildcats to three touchdowns as Kansas State, 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12, held off the Aggies (5-1, 2-1) when they twice got within six points.

Texas A&M; scored on a blocked punt return and an interception return to the one set up another score, but the Wildcats held the Aggies to just four first downs and minus-35 yards rushing.

“Once things started ticking and we started playing as a team, you just felt it,” said Wildcat linebacker Jeff Kelly, who had seven tackles and two sacks.

With Bishop hobbled, the Wildcats turned to a passing attack and the running of Mike Lawrence, who had 105 yards in 20 carries, and Eric Hickson. Bishop completed 10 of 21 passes for 173 yards.

A&M;’s leading rusher, Dante Hall, was injured on the first play of the game and did not return, and the Aggies never got started on offense as Coach R.C. Slocum alternated Branndon Stewart and Randy McCown at quarterback.

Missouri 37, Texas 29--Brock Olivo ran for two first-half touchdowns and the Tigers (4-3, 2-2) got three more scores on the ground in the fourth quarter to beat the Longhorns (3-3, 1-2) in a Big 12 game at Columbia, Mo.

The win was Missouri’s first over Texas in the 10 games played between the two school since 1916.

Ricky Williams had his second consecutive 200-yard game for Texas, getting 238 yards in 23 carries with two touchdowns.

The Longhorns were hurt by shaky games from previously automatic kicker Phil Dawson and quarterback James Brown.

Dawson extended his school record to 15 consecutive field goals with a 42-yarder in the first quarter, but later missed from 43 and 45 yards, the latter attempt hitting the left upright.

Colorado 42, Kansas 6--Embattled quarterback John Hessler passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Buffaloes (3-3, 1-2) beat the Wildcats (4-3, 2-2) in a Big 12 game at Boulder, Colo.

Hessler, in danger of losing his starting job after throwing 10 interceptions with three touchdowns in the first five games, had his best game of the season. He completed 15 of 19 passes--including his last eight--for 188 yards with no interceptions.

Marlon Barnes rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns for Colorado.

Colorado, which had lost three of its previous four games, put the game away with three touchdowns in a span of 4:55 of the third quarter for a 35-6 lead.

Oklahoma 24, Baylor 23--Quarterback Eric Moore scored on an 80-yard run and Terry White intercepted a two-point conversion try with 38 seconds left as the Sooners (3-5, 1-2) beat the Bears (1-5, 0-3) at Norman, Okla.

Moore’s run on Oklahoma’s first play of the fourth quarter gave the Sooners a 24-17 lead.

After Jeremy Alexander missed a 37-yard field-goal try with 2:44 left, Baylor took over and drove 79 yards in six plays. Darrell Bush had a 42-yard gain to set up Jeff Watson’s 13-yard touchdown pass to Derrius Thompson.

White, who had left the game earlier because of a slight concussion, got beat on the touchdown play. But he intercepted the two-point conversion pass, and the Sooners ran out the clock after recovering an onside kick.
