Because of enrollment increases, Huntington Beach and Marina have been moved up one division for the remainder of the school year, the Southern Section announced Monday. Both schools entered the school year classified in Division II-AA.
According to the state constitution, if a school’s enrollment increases or decreases by 15% from last year, the most recent enrollment figure is used effective immediately. This year’s enrollment figures were verified this month, the Southern Section office said.
The two fall sports affected are girls’ volleyball and cross-country. Huntington Beach and Marina will compete in Division I-A for the section playoffs and Division I for the state playoffs.
The schools will also move up from Division II to Division I for state and section cross-country preliminaries and finals.
