A weekly look at the college progress of former Orange County prep athletes.
USC VOLLEYBALL
* County connections: There are three local players on the Trojans. Shannon Redfern is a freshman from Santa Margarita. Junior Jennifer Kessey and senior Jeanne Vetter are from Dana Hills.
* Worth noting: Kessey has been a key player for USC (15-2, 7-2 in the Pacific 10). She was selected conference player of the week to start the season, giving her three selections for her career. Redfern got a chance to start last month in a match against Villanova and has worked her way into more steady play. Vetter has been sidelined with a knee injury but could return this week.
ST. MARY’S VOLLEYBALL
* County connection: Whitney Hoover of Calvary Chapel is the only Orange County athlete playing this season for St. Mary’s, located in Moraga, Calif.
* Worth noting: Hoover had an impressive weekend, with 24 assists in a loss to University of San Diego and 20 assists in a victory over University of San Francisco. St. Mary’s is 5-14.
PRINCETON SOCCER
* County connection: Justin Kerr of Newport Harbor is a sophomore forward for Princeton.
* Worth noting: Kerr has started two of nine games for Princeton (6-4-1, 1-1-1 in the Ivy League). He has two goals and two assists.
