Gondrez, Chu Keep Simi Valley in Marmonte Tie

Mindy Gondrez and Stella Chu each swept three singles matches, and Simi Valley High won eight of nine singles sets overall, defeating Agoura, 14-4, Tuesday at Rancho Simi Community Park to keep pace with Camarillo in the Marmonte League girls’ tennis title chase. The Pioneers and Scorpions are both 8-1 in league play.

Although Agoura (7-6, 5-4) dropped its Nos. 1 and 2 singles players into doubles, Simi Valley (13-1 overall) still won six of nine doubles sets. The Pioneer team of Margo O’Donnell and Andrea Espinosa swept all three of its matches.

Hart 13, Burbank 5--No. 2 singles player Bethanie Campbell improved to 25-11 overall by sweeping her three sets for the visiting Indians (12-0, 7-0) in a Foothill League match.

Camarillo 16, Royal 2--The No. 2 team of Annie Doud and Erin Jones surrendered just two games in three sets to lead a doubles sweep by the Scorpions (11-2, 8-1) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.

Doud and Jones won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for Camarillo, which also won seven of nine doubles sets. Kim Tran won two of her three sets at No. 1 singles for Royal (5-8, 2-7).

Louisville 11, Notre Dame 7--The Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams of Lisa Moverley and Lisa Abe and Liz Cooper and Heidi Theule each swept three sets by 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 scores for the Royals (8-4, 7-2) in a Mission League victory over Notre Dame (3-10, 2-7) at Calabasas Tennis and Swim Club.

Burroughs 13, Saugus 5--The No. 1 team of Danette Romero and Michelle Hildreth did not give up a game in sweeping three sets for the Indians (9-4, 6-1) in a Foothill League match at Burroughs.

Granada Hills 7, San Fernando 0--Highlanders Karen Jung and Caryn Linder (8-0) defeated Lidia Cordero and Violeta Arteaga (6-2), 8-4, in a No. 1 doubles set that lasted almost two hours.

Cleveland 5, Kennedy 2--No. 1 singles player Debbie Yim won five consecutive games for the Cavaliers (4-4, 1-1) to close out an 8-4 victory after rallying from 3-0 and 4-3 deficits in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Cleveland also got singles victories by Alma Mazo and Modesta Salmeron .

Grant 5, Birmingham 2--Andrea Hook did not lose a game at No. 3 singles for the visiting Lancers (5-2, 5-1), downing Margie Rosenberg, 8-0, in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match.

Monroe 5, Sylmar 2--No. 2 singles player Fiona Cudiamat and the No. 1 doubles team of Suzanne Eastman and Devin Moorman each posted victories for the Vikings (4-5, 4-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Sylmar.

Van Nuys 7, Reseda 0--Singles players Leslie Musser, Diana Friedland and Tina Chung all won by 8-0 scores to help the Wolves (8-1, 6-0) sweep the Regents (0-8, 0-6) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys. No. 4 singles player Newsha Mohajeri won, her match, 8-2.

El Camino Real 4, Chatsworth 3--Junior No. 1 singles player Jamie Macias improved to 9-0 with an 8-4 victory over El Camino Real’s Rachel Vishnevsky, but the Chancellors (3-6, 2-4) fell in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Hart d. Burbank, 15-9, 15-6, 15-10--Pamela Hunnicutt had 12 kills and Gina Casillas added seven kills for the host Indians (8-3, 4-1 in league).

Highland d. Palmdale, 15-5, 15-5, 15-10--Melissa Rawson and Josie Wilson each had five kills, and Jennifer Crosier had 20 assists for the Bulldogs (11-0, 5-0) in a Golden League match at Palmdale.

La Canada d. Monrovia, 15-1, 15-3, 15-8--Emily Dalbeck had 16 kills and Kalee Heydorff had 14 assists for the Spartans (10-1, 5-0) in a Rio Hondo League match at Monrovia.

Sylmar d. North Hollywood, 15-11, 15-5, 14-16, 15-9--Kassy Jimenez had 11 kills and four blocks and Mayra Villalobos added 10 kills for the Spartans (9-0, 6-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at North Hollywood.

Ashley Fargeon had five kills and seven aces for North Hollywood (7-3, 4-3).

Royal d. Camarillo, 15-4, 15-0, 15-4--Sherisa Livingston had eight kills and Courtney Guerra added six for the Highlanders (10-1, 8-1) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Notre Dame 17, Harvard-Westlake 45--The Knights (5-0, 5-0) won four of the top five places in a Mission League meet at Griffifth Park. Kevin Lelles was the only runner under 16 minutes, touring the 2.9-mile course in 15:15.
