Orange Coast Stops 13-Game Winless Streak

Juan Escobar, formerly of Costa Mesa High, scored two second-half goals to give Orange Coast a 2-1 victory over visiting Golden West in Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer Tuesday.

Escobar’s goals, which came at the 76th and 89th minutes, stopped a 13-game Orange Coast winless streak. The Pirates are 1-9-4, 1-4-1.

Ryan Arechederra , also from Costa Mesa High, assisted Escobar on his first goal. Ariel Gavilan, formerly of Newport Harbor, assisted on the second.

Carlos Loza had four saves for Orange Coast and Geno Casillas had seven for Golden West.

Owen Market scored for Golden West (1-10-4, 0-6).

In other conference games:

Fullerton 8, Cypress 0--Visiting Fullerton scored seven goals in the first half. Andreas Wirz, Brian Treat and Ramiro Robles each scored two goals for the Hornets.

Irvine Valley 1, Riverside 0--Carlos Torres scored a goal for Irvine Valley (13-4-5, 3-1-2). Miljan Soskic had four saves for the Lasers.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:

Cypress 8, Fullerton 0--Vedda Desatoff and Linsey Espley each scored two goals for Cypress. Desatoff, who also had three assists, has 17 goals this season for the Chargers, ranked No. 1 in the state.

Irvine Valley 2, Riverside 0--Jennifer Bass and Catherine Currie scored goals for Irvine Valley (8-6-1, 5-2).
