In another Sunset League match:

No. 8 Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Courtney McKinney had six kills in Huntington Beach’s 15-1, 15-6, 15-1 victory. The Oilers are 9-3 overall and 3-3 in league play.

In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 6 Laguna Beach 3, University 0--Kate Dwyer had 29 assists for Laguna Beach, which won, 15-11, 15-11, 15-10. Cammie DeGeus had nine kills for the Artists (9-1, 6-0). Julia Topak had 12 kills for University (8-4, 4-2).

In the Sea View League:

No. 3 Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 1--Jennifer Carey had 53 assists and seven kills in a 15-4, 14-16, 15-10, 15-12 victory. Teammate April Ross had 28 kills for the Sailors (9-1, 6-0).

No. 9 Corona del Mar 3, Irvine 0--Sarah Petry had 16 kills for Corona del Mar (7-5, 4-2) in a 15-1, 15-9, 15-7 victory.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 3, Capistrano Valley 2--It took five games for Mater Dei, which won 15-13, 15-11, 14-16, 12-15, 15-11. Megan Sabo had 24 kills and Amy DeCinces added 18 to lead the Monarchs (13-1, 6-0). LeeAnn McLaughlin had 15 kills for Capistrano Valley (8-4, 3-3).

In the Sunset League boys’ cross-country:

Esperanza 24, No. 8 Edison 34--Sophomore Ryan Busquet finished second in 15:39 to pace Esperanza (4-0) to the upset victory on Yorba Regional Park’s three-mile course. Esperanza runners also finished fourth and fifth.

In Sunset League girls’ cross-country:

No. 1 Esperanza 15, Edison 45--Esperanza (4-0) captured the top five spots, led by junior Pam Smith, who finished first in 18:06 on Yorba Regional Park’s three-mile course.

In Empire League girls’ tennis:

Loara 11, El Dorado 10--Heather Hodge and Chitra Balasubramanian’s 7-5 victory in the final set clinched the match for Loara (14-3, 7-1).

In the South Coast League:

No. 6 Mater Dei 14, No. 8 Capistrano Valley 4--Mary Hung, Mater Dei’s No. 2 singles player, won her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-4. Mater Dei is 9-4, 5-1.
