Cal Lutheran Wraps Up 7th Straight Soccer Title

Chayna Manning scored three goals and Cal Lutheran clinched its seventh consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer championship with a 5-1 victory over Redlands on Saturday at Cal Lutheran.

The Regals (14-3, 11-0), who led, 3-0, at halftime, allowed Redlands (6-8, 4-6) just one shot.

Cal Lutheran is 81-1-1 over the last seven seasons.

MEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 3, Redlands 0--Edwin Astudillo scored two goals and Cal Lutheran (13-2-1, 7-0) clinched the No. 1 seeding in the SCIAC playoffs that begin later this week.

WRESTLING

State Southern California Dual Meet Tournament--Moorpark College earned the right to host the state dual meet championships Nov. 15 by defeating Cerritos, 32-10, in the regional championship match at Moorpark. The Raiders, who defeated Santa Ana, 42-4, in their opening match, lost only three individual matches in two dual meets.

Raiders Ernie Nunez and Ati Conner were named the outstanding lightweight and heavyweight wrestlers, respectively, of the tournament.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal State Northridge d. Idaho State, 18-16, 15-6, 15-17, 15-5--Crystal Newquist had 21 kills and 11 digs, and Nicki Midwin added 17 kills and 10 digs for the Matadors (11-9, 4-6) in a Big Sky Conference match at Northridge.

Holli Sierra had 16 kills, Kristin Sigel had 13 kills and 18 digs, and Rene Goth finished with 64 assists for Northridge.

Cal Lutheran d. Whittier, 15-2, 15-5, 15-8--Lauren McCartin had 10 kills and six digs, Marianne Moll had nine kills and Tracy Gail added 33 assists for the Regals (13-12, 4-5) in a SCIAC match at Cal Lutheran.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Pepperdine 12, USC 10--In a battle between the first and second-ranked teams in the nation, junior two-meter man Jeremy Pope scored seven points--including two 2-point goals--for the top-ranked Waves (17-1, 5-0) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at USC.

Merrill Moses turned away 11 shots by the Trojans (11-4, 1-2), who were led by senior driver Simun Cimerman’s four-point performance.
