Update--The StingRays can measure themselves against the ABL’s defending champion. The Quest lost league most valuable player Nikki McCray to the WNBA in the preseason, but still has Andrea Lloyd, Katie Smith, Tonya Edwards and Valerie Still, the 36-year-old MVP from last year’s playoff series with Richmond. Also, help is coming from two big rookies, Angie Potthoff (6 feet 2) and Jannon Roland (6-1). The Quest is wrapping up a five-game trip tonight. Coach Brian Agler’s team lost at undefeated Portland last Friday but beat San Jose in overtime Sunday, 76-72, behind 13 points and 12 rebounds by reserve Sonja Tate. The Quest’s Shannon Johnson had a game-high 19 points at San Jose. Long Beach’s Yolanda Griffith (6-4) leads the league in scoring (23.8 points per game), rebounding (14.8), blocks (2.0) and shooting (67.9%). She has ample help up front from Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil (16.3 points) and Cass Bauer, who came off the bench Friday at San Jose for her best game as a pro, 12 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes.
