Trebil Sent Down; Cullen, Park Recalled

Share

The Ducks on Monday sent second-year defenseman Dan Trebil to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League and recalled forwards Matt Cullen and Richard Park.

The promotion of Cullen and Park was no surprise, particularly since Coach Pierre Page asked General Manager Jack Ferreira over the weekend for more players. The Ducks were carrying 21 players, three shy of the roster limit.

Sending Trebil to the minor leagues was a mild surprise, however.

“I told him, ‘Don’t think of it as a demotion. You’re young. You’re way ahead of schedule,’ ” Page said. “I told him we’ll call him back.”

Page hopes Trebil will gain confidence in the minors much like Ruslan Salei did during a nine-game stint at Cincinnati.

TONIGHT at Toronto

* 4:30 p.m. PDT

Site--Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto.

Radio--KRLA 1110.

Records--Ducks 4-4-3, Maple Leafs 3-6-1.

Record vs. Maple Leafs--2-2 (1996-97 season).

Update--The Ducks haven’t won at Toronto since a 1-0 victory on Dec. 15, 1993, a seven-game drought at the NHL’s oldest arena. But these aren’t the same Maple Leafs the Ducks have faced in the past. Toronto’s power play has converted only nine of 61 chances and had a 0-for-42 slump recently. Mikhail Shtalenkov (3-0-1) is expected to start in goal.
