City Offers Rebates for El Nino Impact

Share

Cities aren’t generally in the habit of doling out loads of cash. But in the era of El Nino, it seems, anything is possible.

Thousand Oaks has more than $50,000 waiting for residents who want to prepare for the storms that meteorologists predict will slam the state this winter.

Low- and moderate-income residents are eligible to receive as much as $800 in rebates from the city to make improvements to their homes. Residents can receive as much as $500 for improvements made to their roofs and $300 for improvements made to gutters and drainage systems.

City officials say more money will be added to the fund if demand for the rebates requires it. However, only a dozen people have applied for the rebates so far, city officials say.
