Dominant Run Ends for La Reina in Tri-Valley

The streak, bordering on a decade in length, ended Tuesday afternoon.

La Reina High lost a Tri-Valley League girls’ tennis match for the first time since 1987, falling to St. Bonaventure, 10-8, at Camino Real Park.

Sarita Pouzanoff won all three sets at No. 1 singles and Breanne Henkelman went undefeated at No. 2 singles for the Seraphs (8-6, 6-1 in league play), who avenged a 10-8 loss to the Regents (9-4, 6-1) earlier this month.

In other girls’ tennis matches:

Hart 16, Saugus 2--Jenny Munroe, Bethanie Campbell and Cristina Cancio swept their singles matches for the Indians (14-0, 9-0) in a Foothill League match at Hart.

The Indians’ victory clinched a tie for the league title with one match left in the regular season.

Munroe’s victories, which came by identical 6-0 scores, gave her a 40-2 mark this season.

Burroughs 15, Valencia 3--Shaland Romero swept three singles matches without losing a game, and Dragana Ognenovski dropped two games in three sets for the Indians (11-4, 8-1) in a Foothill League match at Valencia.

Camarillo 18, Newbury Park 0--Alison Gottlieb did not lose a game at No. 1 singles while Mari Leyva at No. 2 singles and Anita Quicoli at No. 3 singles only lost one game each for the host Scorpions (13-2, 10-1) in a Marmonte League match.

Agoura 13, Channel Islands 5--Brooke Borisoff at No. 1 singles and Alyson Tyson at No. 2 singles both swept their three sets without losing a game for the Chargers (9-7, 6-5) in a Marmonte League match at Channel Islands (8-8, 3-8).

Calabasas 15, Oak Park 3--Shervin Saedinia, Elise Mackay and Vanessa Everly combined to win all nine singles sets, losing just two games for the Coyotes (13-3) in a nonleague match at Oak Park.

Sylmar 4, Reseda 3--No. 3 singles player Julie Curtis defeated Priya Sood in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4), to lift the Spartans (3-6, 2-4) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Sylmar.

Van Nuys 7, Monroe 0--Leslie Musser, Diana Friedland and Lora Passeva each won their matches by 8-0 scores for the Wolves (10-1, 8-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Van Nuys.

Granada Hills 7, Cleveland 0--Kelley Takeshita scored an 8-0 victory in singles, and the three doubles teams for the Highlanders (10-0, 7-0) remained undefeated, in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Cleveland.

Grant 7, Poly 0--Erin Klibanow won at No. 1 singles for the Lancers (6-2, 6-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.

Taft 4, Chatsworth 3--Jennifer Lowenstein defeated Shirin Khossoussi at No. 4 singles, 8-5, to clinch the Northewest Valley Conference match for the host Toreadors (6-4, 4-3).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Van Nuys d. Reseda, 15-3, 15-7, 15-6--Angela Eckmier had seven kills in 10 attempts and her sister, Melody, added six kills in eight attempts for the Wolves (10-1, 8-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda.

La Canada d. Blair, 15-2, 15-1, 15-3--Emily Dalbeck had nine kills for the Spartans (12-1, 7-0) in a Rio Hondo League match at La Canada.

Highland d. Lancaster, 15-5, 15-6, 15-3--Jennifer Smith had 10 kills in 18 attempts for the Bulldogs (13-0, 7-0) in a Golden League match at Lancaster.

Middle blocker Josie Wilson did not play for Highland because she had the flu.

Newbury Park d. Camarillo, 15-7, 15-8, 16-14--Jaime Dirking had six kills and Malia Kimball had seven aces for the Panthers (7-5, 7-4) in a Marmonte League match at Camarillo.

Buena d. Dos Pueblos, 5-15, 15-2, 15-4, 15-6--Nici Matlock had 15 kills and Tamara Trouw added 10 for the Bulldogs (6-5, 6-5) in a Channel League match at Dos Pueblos.

L.A. Baptist d. Frazier Mountain, 14-16, 15-7, 15-1, 15-4--Kristen Jensen had 27 kills for the Knights (11-2, 6-0) in an Alpha League match at L.A. Baptist.

Alemany d. Chaminade, 15-9, 15-8, 15-8--Cheryl Sasadeusz had 10 kills and Debbie Borra had 10 digs for the host Indians (8-3, 4-3) in a Mission League match.

Poly d. North Hollywood, 15-13, 15-6, 15-12--Gaby Gallardo had 11 kills for the Parrots (10-2, 7-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Poly.

Sonia Munoz and Vicki Ianni added six kills each for Poly, which has won four consecutive matches.

Valley Alternative d. Westside Leadership, 15-6, 15-6, 13-15, 15-0--Vanessa Molina had 14 aces and Nancy Jacobo added seven for host Valley Alternative (9-2, 8-0) in a Magnet Conference match.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Buena 11, Dos Pueblos 5--Robert Klamser had four goals and Patrick Treanor had 12 saves for the visiting Bulldogs (12-9, 6-1) in a Channel League game.
