You Can Help Out by Taking a Walk
Bring your pet for a stroll with other pet owners and help a homeless dog or cat at the Friends of Animals Foundation’s third Walk for Animals on Sept. 28. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. at the Westwood Recreation Center, 1350 Sepulveda Blvd. in Westwood. A five-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. and a two-mile walk at 9:45. There will also be entertainment, refreshments and prizes. Sponsors are Katie’s Pet Depot and Petville USA.
The entry fee is $20 with all proceeds going to support the foundation’s work to provide a caring environment for homeless animals. Checks should be payable to Friends of Animals Foundation and may be mailed in advance to P.O. Box 34-1230, Los Angeles CA 90034.

* Have a vegetarian or vegan recipe that everyone raves about? Show it off at the Orange County People for Animals Veggie Cook-Off on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Choose entries from one or more of four categories: appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. A panel of judges will award prizes to winners from each category. Entry fee is $20 per dish.

* The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA Mobile Adoption Unit will be at Pet Barn, 1000 S. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. The donation for adoption is $65 for a dog and $45 for a cat. Information: (818) 792-7151.

* KABC Radio “Pet Show” host and pet behavior expert Warren Eckstein will appear at the opening of PETCO in Encino at 17919 Ventura Blvd. Bring your pets to meet him or adopt a cat or dog from Cat Crossing and Life Animal Rescue. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: (818) 343-1124.
* Teacher’s Pet Cat Club will sponsor a cat show at Arcadia Masonic Temple, 50 W. Duarte Road, Arcadia, from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. There will be six rings of continuous judging for purebred and household cats. Activities also include cat adoptions and arts and crafts.
