Teen Abortions

Share

Warren Olney (Commentary, Aug. 27) neglects to mention that the California Supreme Court had already ruled in favor of parental consent for teen abortions when the new chief justice, Ronald George, snatched it back to reverse the ruling. If that’s not playing politics, I don’t know what is.

Parents are in the best position to help their teenage daughters make the most appropriate decisions. Parental consent laws not only cut abortion rates among teenagers, but are also proven to cut the pregnancy rate by helping give teens an extra incentive to act responsibly.

Cutting the pregnancy rate among underage teenagers is a goal that has been embraced by both sides of this difficult issue. Hopefully, all Californians can now come together to make sure that parental consent for teen abortions is a reality here in California.
