Jury Convicts Alleged Bomber in Drug Case
VALLEJO, Calif. — A rap musician accused of planting a string of bombs to avoid a three-strikes trial that could send him to prison for life was convicted on the charges that he was allegedly trying to evade with the blasts.
A Solano County jury found Kevin Lee “Big Kev” Robinson guilty Monday on 10 drug and weapons counts but acquitted him on one count of unlawful possession of a handgun.
The former rap producer and convicted drug dealer still faces a host of charges stemming from the dynamite bombings of the Vallejo courthouse and a Wells Fargo bank last January.
Police believe that Robinson and five other men were also trying to destroy evidence in a police locker at a local library where children discovered 30 sticks of dynamite in a backpack.
Robinson, 29, and his alleged co-conspirators will be back in court Oct. 24 for a preliminary hearing in the bombing case.
During the 1 1/2-week trial, jurors heard a wealth of evidence that Robinson possessed $75,000 worth of heroin, cocaine and marijuana for sale. Police seized the drugs in raids on several residences that Robinson owned in Vallejo.
Under the three-strikes law, Robinson faces “about four centuries” of prison time, Russo said.
Robinson will be sentenced on Nov. 21.
