Mother Who Dumped Newborn Is Sentenced
A Saddleback High School student was sentenced to the California Youth Authority on Friday after pleading guilty to dumping her newborn son outside a bathroom window, officials said.
The 17-year-old mother, whose name was not released because of her age, was ordered by an Orange County Superior Court judge to serve at least four years in custody, officials said.
The girl, who concealed her pregnancy from her family, gave birth in July in the bathroom of her family’s two-bedroom home on South Rosewood Avenue. Authorities said she then placed the infant in a plastic bag and dropped him out the first-floor window.
The teenager’s father heard a muffled cry and discovered the baby, who was not injured and will be put up for adoption, officials said.
