Re “Getting in Tune,” March 23.

As president of the New West Symphony Conejo League (with more than 100 active members) and a member of the board of directors of the New West Symphony, I would like to thank Cathy Murillo for her comprehensive article about our wonderful high-quality symphony orchestra.

She was right-on when she reported the fabulous working relationship between our maestro, Boris Brott, and the musicians, and she certainly reported accurately about our educational program, Symphonic Adventures, and our Music in the Schools program, as well as our talented youth orchestra.

Here are two other programs we are bringing to the community:

* Meet the Artist, in the Founders Room of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza at 10 a.m. Thursday before each symphony performance. This is an opportunity to meet the performing artist of that weekend’s concert and Maestro Brott, as they present a sampling of the music to be played, and learn a bit about the personal background of the artist. It’s free, and a continental breakfast is served by league members. We invite everyone to join us.

* Discovery Artists. A committee auditions young and talented musicians from Ventura County and northwestern Los Angeles County. This program lets about half a dozen of these youths perform with our orchestra in January of each year. Some of these young artists are given opportunities to perform throughout the year at various events.

I believe this orchestra has brought excitement, enrichment and enjoyment to our communities with its music and creative programs under the able leadership of Maestro Brott. I hope that the public will watch for our notices and become part of our music and all of our musical presentations.
