More Rain May Be in Store for County Sunday

A reprieve from the recent storms is expected today, but that may end Sunday when up to 2 inches of steady rain could fall on Ventura County.

Today should be dry, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

“There might be a lingering morning shower, but I doubt it,” he said. “It’s kind of a sun sandwich--you’ll get clouds in the morning and clouds in the evening.”

That should allow today’s annual Easter egg hunt, scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. at Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks, to proceed despite grass that very likely will be wet from showers overnight.

“There will be a lot of dirty little bunnies,” said Rhonda Ogden, publicist for the Conejo Valley Parks and Recreation District. “But it’s never been canceled and the only way it will be is if it’s pouring with rain.”

Highs are expected to only reach the low to mid-60s today, but any substantial rain is expected to hold off until Sunday morning, Sherwin said.

“It could be an all-day thing,” he said. “The track it will take should bring steady rain to Southern California.”

Between 1 and 2 inches of precipitation is possible, with more in the mountains.

Meanwhile, Friday’s showers posed few problems in the county.

The California Highway Patrol reported half a dozen fender-benders and no serious accidents.

Rainfall amounts by 4 p.m. Friday ranged from 0.26 of an inch in Simi Valley to 0.10 of an inch in Oxnard and Ventura.
