The city of Thousand Oaks is inviting the public to an Arbor Day celebration that will include exhibits, hikes and the planting of 1,000 oaks.

The celebration is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. April 25 on the future site of Oakbrook Community Park on Westlake Boulevard, one-quarter mile south of Avenida de los Arboles.

After city officials plant the first oaks, the public will plant others on designated sites.

“Our environment is important and trees not only add beauty to the landscape, they also protect against erosion, clean our air and enhance wildlife habitats,” Thousand Oak Councilwoman Linda Parks said in a memo.

The celebration will include the Thousand Oaks High School Jazz Band, a Chumash Interpretive Center presentation and student art contests. The Thousand Oaks High School Band Boosters will staff food booths to help raise money to send the band to the 1999 Rose Parade.

Anyone wishing to reserve exhibit space or plant trees should call Chris Ronnenberg at (805) 449-2330.
