‘Brecht and Film’ to Honor Playwright

The Goethe Institute, 5750 Wilshire Blvd., will present “Brecht and Film,” a series of seminars with films marking the centennial of the German playwright’s birth. They will be held Tuesdays at 7 p.m., from April 21 to May 5.

The first program will feature “The Mysteries of a Hairdresser’s Shop” (1923, 24 minutes), co-directed by Bertolt Brecht and Erich Engel and starring comedian Kari Valentin; “A Man’s a Man” (1931, 15 minutes), featuring Peter Lorre; and “Kuhle Wampe” (1932, 75 minutes), directed by Slatan Dudow from Brecht’s script dealing with mass unemployment in Germany.
