The City Council has agreed to lend $45,000 to the nonprofit foundation sponsoring Renaissance Garden Grove, a two-week festival that runs Aug. 26 to Sept. 5.

The event is designed to highlight several major projects underway in the city, including construction of a new Juvenile Justice Center.

It coincides with the groundbreaking of three hotels near Disneyland and will include free concerts and guest lectures.

The total budget for Renaissance Garden Grove is $175,000. About $130,000 has been raised so far, said Kathy Moore, manager of the city’s Office of Administrative Services and Community Relations and a festival organizer.

The city will lend the remainder to the foundation.

“We had to have that bridge money from the city,” Moore said. “We have bills to pay. Then we’ll pay the city back.”

Moore said the festival will highlight Garden Grove’s recent growth.

“The ultimate goal of Renaissance is to have people think about Garden Grove, if they want to move here,” she said.
