From Times Wire Reports

A fire raced through the aging, wooden buildings of a Manila orphanage, killing at least 28 people, mostly children, fire officials said. Rescuers gingerly lifted bodies of infants wrapped in blankets from the remains of the Bahay Kalinga orphanage and children’s home in the Philippines’ capital. Thirteen dead children were found huddled together in a storeroom in one of the cottages, where they apparently ran in an attempt to escape the blaze. City officials said faulty wiring in buildings that were more than 70 years old may have been to blame.
