Kickoff: 11 a.m. Saturday at the Orange Bowl, ESPN.

Story line: It could be a historic weekend for Bruin football. A win Saturday in the game rescheduled from Sept. 26 because of Hurricane Georges will probably keep them in line for a spot in the Fiesta Bowl, leaving them to then sweat out one more night before the final bowl championship series rankings are announced. If not Tempe, Ariz., on Jan. 4, they’ll go to Pasadena on Jan. 1.

UCLA update: The Bruins are 10-0 for the first time since 1946 and are trying to get an 11th win for the first time in school history. Third-string tight end Randy Hakes is out because of an appendectomy, but UCLA is hopeful of having him back, mostly for special team play, for the bowl game. Reserve receiver Jon Dubravac is questionable because of a bad hamstring that has sidelined him for practice this week.

Miami update: A week ago at this time, the Hurricanes were on a four-game winning streak and ranked 19th, but then they got hammered at Syracuse, 66-13. They are still averaging 35.3 points a game, No. 14 in the country, behind an offense led by tailback Edgerrin James and quarterback Scott Covington, a Laguna Niguel native. But leading receiver Reggie Wayne is out for the rest of the season because of a torn knee ligament. Hurricanes will play North Carolina State in the Micron PC Bowl on Dec. 29 in Pro Player Stadium.

Edge to UCLA: Winning the Hurricane Bowl should get the Bruins to the Fiesta Bowl.

Line: UCLA by 9 1/2.
