Bell, Penberthy Lead Master’s to Third Place in Tournament

Chad Bell scored 22 points and Joey Penberthy added 16 to help The Master’s College defeat Hope International, 88-77, in the third-place game of the 51st annual Lee Fulmer men’s tournament Saturday night at Redlands.

Bell made 10 of 18 shots, including two three-point baskets.

Joclin Julmist had 13 points on six-of-eight shooting and 13 rebounds for Master’s, and Kelly Haynes scored 11 points.

The Mustangs outrebounded Hope International, 45-31.

Seth Houck scored 21 points and Thad Alston added 15 for Hope International.

In other men’s games:

Westmont 77, Cal Lutheran 53--Chris Gonzales was perfect on five shots, finishing with 15 points, and the Warriors (6-1) won a nonconference at Westmont.

Cal Lutheran’s Mike Dulaney led all scorers with 23 points, making 10 of 15 shots. The Kingsmen (1-3) had no other player score in double figures.

Valley 68, Cypress 64--Alan Thomas led a balanced offense with 12 points and Valley (5-6) used a 22-10 run to take a 32-29 halftime lead in the third-place game of the Orange Coast tournament.

Kenya Carruthers, George Walker and Felix Lang each scored 10 points for the Monarchs. Carruthers had 13 rebounds.

Valley’s Tyree Williams, who had eight points and nine assists, was selected to the all-tournament team.

Cypress (5-6) made 13 of 29 three-point shots.

The Monarchs benefited from making 10 more trips to the free-throw line than did the Chargers. Valley sank 11 of 16 free throws, and Cypress made five of six.

WOMEN

Canyons 71, Valley 63--LaTasha Allen made three three-point baskets and finished with 20 points for Canyons (4-1) in a consolation semifinal of the Sequoias tournament.

Canyons led by 15 points in the second half before Valley (5-2) rallied in the last two minutes.

Tynisha Howze led Valley with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Kameelah Purdom had 15 points.
