Mayor Christina L. Shea’s earlier suggestion that the City Council repeal what she dubbed “a bad law” became a reality this week. With a 3-2 vote Tuesday, the City Council discarded an ordinance that would penalize council members for disclosing closed-session information.

Shea said she believed the council could find better remedies. The council approved the ordinance in November by a 3-2 vote, with Shea and Councilman Dave Christensen dissenting. New Councilman Larry Agran proved the key vote in overturning the law. Agran replaced Councilman Barry Hammond, who could not return to the council because of term limits. Councilmen Greg Smith and Michael Ward cast the dissenting votes Tuesday.
