SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Police said Monday they have uncovered no motive for the beating death of a 75-year-old Anaheim resident who was found dead on his living room floor late Sunday.

Officers found Nicholas Scollard, who lived alone, in his apartment in the 100 block of South Walnut Street about 11 p.m. Police had been alerted by neighbors who called to say they had heard a fight.

Paramedics pronounced Scollard dead at the scene, apparently from head injuries, said Sgt. Joe Vargas, public information officer for the Anaheim Police Department. The apartment was in “disarray from an obvious fight,” he said.

Neighbors told police they saw three men in their 20s fleeing the area at the time of the incident. Vargas said Scollard may have known at least one of his attackers.

Vargas said Scollard was a registered sex offender, but investigators found no immediate link between the man’s criminal history and the attack.

An autopsy Monday indicated the cause of death was blunt force trauma, officials said. The investigation was continuing.
