In time for Black History Month, fans can choose their favorites in two categories--pre-1960 and post-1960. In the first public poll to select the teams, in conjunction with Michael Hurd’s definitive book on the subject, ‘Black College Football.”

Athletes at historically black college teams rarely gained the widespread attention they deserved from the recognized All-American teams. Hurd said the poll is a way of honoring the host of great players who failed to get national attention for their achievements in college, but who helped shape the unique experience of black college football.

Ballots must be received by midnight Feb. 28, the end of Black History Month. Results of the voting will be published in “Black College Football: The Book,” an updated version of Hurd’s 1993 book that is going to be released this fall.
