Loyola Marymount 80, St. Mary’s 71--Leo Saucedo scored 17 points and Ben Ammerman added 16 as the Lions won at Moraga, Calif.
The Gaels got within 68-67 with 5:30 remaining, but Loyola (7-14, 3-6 WCC) went on a 12-4 run for the victory.
St. Mary’s (9-12, 4-5) failed to make a field goal over the last 8:33 but made all 12 free throws to keep the Lions from running away with only their second road win of the year.
Saucedo, who scored 15 of his points in the first half, made six of seven shots, including all three of his three-point baskets.
Peter Cornell, who had 14 points for Loyola, set a WCC record, making 19 consecutive field goals over three games. The streak was stopped in the second half.
Frank Allocco led the Gaels with a career-high 21 points.
