Lasers, Xplosion Clinch
Sheri Sam scored 18 points as the San Jose Lasers defeated the Colorado Xplosion, 84-60, Sunday before 4,203 at San Jose.
Because of Atlanta’s loss to the Philadelphia Rage earlier in the day, both the Lasers (21-20) and the Xplosion (19-22) earned playoff berths.
San Jose took control in the second quarter, holding Colorado to only five points for a 42-20 halftime lead.
Edna Campbell had 13 points and Crystal Robinson scored 12 in Colorado’s worst loss of the season.
The sellout crowd of 4,550 was the Lasers’ largest at the San Jose Events Center since opening night of the 1996 inaugural season.
Philadelphia 77, Atlanta 74--Adrienne Goodson scored 18 points, including two free throws with 10.8 seconds left that produced the final margin, as the Rage defeated the Glory before 5,423 at Philadelphia.
Atlanta guard Saudia Roundtree had a chance to tie the game with one second left, but her three-point shot missed.
