A ‘Wedding,’ ‘Street’ Party, Winter Olympics Top Menu

Oprah Winfrey’s latest TV movie and a special celebrating “Sesame Street” are among the highlights of the final weekend of the Winter Olympics from Nagano, Japan, and the February sweeps.

ABC’s “Elmopalooza,” Friday at 8 p.m. on Channel 7, celebrates 30 years of “Sesame Street.” Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Bert and Ernie star. Guests include Jon Stewart, the Fugees, Gloria Estefan, En Vogue, Jimmy Buffett and Rosie O’Donnell.

USA presents “Walk This Way,” Friday at 7 p.m. Susan Sarandon hosts this family special, the fourth in the “Erase the Hate” series, which looks at nine young people and their experiences with discrimination.

Halle Berry, Lynn Whitfield, Shirley Knight and Eric Thal star in “Oprah Winfrey Presents: The Wedding,” Sunday at 9 p.m. on Channel 7. The four-hour drama, based on Dorothy West’s book, explores a wealthy African American community on Martha’s Vineyard and what happens when one of the families prepares for a wedding. The conclusion airs Monday at 9 p.m.

MTV premieres “Ultrasound,” Sunday at 10 p.m., a documentary series about the bands and musicians shaping and defining today’s music scene.

Today

Winter Olympics coverage continues at 10 a.m. on TNT, with alpine skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined and speed skating. At 8 p.m., CBS features alpine skiing (women’s slalom), Nordic combined (team ski jumping), short-track speed skating and speed skating (women’s 1,000).

The Discovery Channel’s “Movie Magic,” at 9:30 p.m., offers a behind-the-scenes look at the special effects of “Titanic.”

Friday

Winter Olympics events including alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, hockey, Nordic combined and speed skating, at 10 a.m. on TNT.

CBS presents alpine skiing (women’s giant slalom), bobsled (four-man, runs 1 and 2), cross-country skiing (women’s 30k freestyle) and figure skating (ladies’ free program) at 8 p.m. Men’s hockey, bronze medal game, follows on CBS at 1:05 a.m.

“Message in Music” is a one-hour look at the message found in rap music, at 8 p.m. on BET.

Saturday

CBS kicks off Winter Olympics coverage at 10 a.m. with the biathlon, Nordic combined (team 4x5 relay) and speed skating (women’s 5,000). At 3 p.m., TNT presents alpine skiing, bobsled, figure skating, hockey and speed skating. At 7 p.m., CBS offers alpine skiing (men’s slalom), bobsled (four-man, runs 3 and 4), figure skating and short-track speed skating. Men’s gold medal hockey game is scheduled for 11:35 p.m.

“Convict 762,” at 6 and 10 p.m., is the latest Sci-Fi Channel thriller.

Michael Pare and Heidi von Palleske headline the Roger Corman-produced sci-fi thriller “Falling Fire,” at 9 p.m. on the Movie Channel.

Sunday

The final day of the Winter Olympics begins on CBS at 9 a.m. with a gold medal recap in hockey, the 50k freestyle in cross-country skiing at 12:30 p.m., and the closing ceremony at 8 p.m.

Bravo presents “Junket Whore,” at 4 p.m. The documentary looks at the press junkets bankrolled by film studios and the journalists who take advantage of these gatherings.

Mariel Hemingway and her family visit the island of Barro Colorado on the TBS special “Panama: Paradise Found?,” at 6 p.m.

Jules Asner hosts “Wild on the South Seas,” at 8 p.m. on E! Entertainment Television. The hourlong special looks at the hot spots of Hawaii and Fiji.

Chris Rock guests as the voice of Hank’s traffic school instructor on Fox’s “King of the Hill,” at 8:30 p.m. on Channel 11.

The monthly gay and lesbian magazine “In the Life,” at 11 p.m. on Channel 28, examines AIDS in Tijuana, gender identity disorder and a community center in Brooklyn.
