Northridge’s Curry Honored by Big Sky

Edniesha Curry of Cal State Northridge was selected Big Sky Conference player of the week after leading the Matadors to a pair of victories on the road.

Curry, a freshman guard from Palmdale High, set a school-record with 36 points and had seven rebounds in a 62-60 victory over Weber State, then added 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 60-58 victory over Cal State Sacramento.

Against the Hornets, Northridge trailed, 58-53, with 2:40 to play but scored the last seven points on a layup by Viveca Lof, a free throw by Curry, a layup by LaShaunda Fowler and a game-winning jump shot by Neda Milic with 10 seconds left.

Fowler, a freshman, scored a season-high 18 points against Sacramento and had 14 against Weber State.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

A well-rested Tim Baron pitched seven innings to help Cal State Northridge to a 6-2 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday and a 2-2 finish in the Rawlings Spring Training tournament in Phoenix.

On Friday, Baron (2-1) started against Northwestern and was lifted by Coach Mike Batesole after walking the leadoff batter in the first inning. The Matadors went on to win, 13-5.

Baron took the lesson to heart. Against Santa Clara, the sophomore walked none and struck out five.

Former Camarillo High outfielder Joe Borchard, a freshman at Stanford, had eight hits in 13 at-bats with eight runs batted in during the Cardinal’s three-game sweep of UCLA over the weekend.
