Second-ranked Arizona has the nation’s longest winning streak, although winning has been anything but easy in three of the Wildcats’ last four games.

Michael Dickerson scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half to help Arizona hold off California for a 76-73 Pacific 10 victory Thursday night at Tucson.

It was the 18th victory in a row for Arizona, 25-3 overall and 15-0 in the Pacific 10. The Wildcats’ other too-close-for-comfort victories the last two weeks came against Arizona State (83-82) and Oregon State (70-69).

A three-point basket by Dickerson gave Arizona a 74-69 lead with 3:02 left. Cal (11-13, 7-8) rallied and had a chance to tie the score with 14 seconds left, but Geno Carlisle missed the second of two three throws. The Golden Bears could get no closer.

Free-throw shooting was also a problem for Arizona, which missed 14 of 29 attempts.

Cal shot 59% in the first half to take a 36-31 lead, but Arizona made nine of its first 12 shots of the second half to go ahead, 55-50.

Sean Lampley had 21 points and eight rebounds for California.

No. 8 Stanford 86, Arizona State 73--Arthur Lee scored 21 points and Tim Young had 19 points and 14 rebounds at Tempe, Ariz., for the Cardinal, which avenged a loss to the Sun Devils on Jan. 31.

Young scored 12 of his points in the second half as Stanford (24-3, 13-2) won its fifth consecutive game and remained unbeaten in eight conference road games.

Jeremy Veal scored 24 points and Bobby Lazor had 17 for the Arizona State (17-11, 7-8), which lost for the third time in its last four games.

Stanford plays Arizona at Tucson on Saturday.
