Loyola Marymount 76, San Jose State 68--Haywood Eaddy scored 19 points as the Lions held off a second-half rally to defeat the Spartans in a nonconference game in front of 443 fans at Gersten Pavilion.

Loyola Marymount (4-8) led, 49-31, with 16:31 remaining in the game but the Spartans (2-9) responded with a 25-3 run over the next 9:58, keyed by 13 points from reserve guard Brent Boe, to take a 56-52 lead.

For the Lions, center Silvester Kainga had career highs in rebounds (11) and blocked shots (five).

Boe led the Spartans with a career-high 17 points off the bench, all in the second half.

UC Irvine 51, Sonoma State 41--Jason Flowers and Brian Scoggin scored half the Anteaters’ points in the victory in front of 746 in the Bren Center.

Technically, UCI (3-7) won going away, mainly because the Cossacks (4-7) made only one of 21 shots and scored only three points in the last 11 minutes 54 seconds. Even at that, it took plays from Flowers (14 points) and Scoggin (12 points) to secure the win.

Scoggin’s 15-foot jumper tied the score, 38-38, 11:35 left. Flowers scored off a pass from Scoggin and then on a 15-foot jumper for a 45-39 lead with 3:54 left. Scoggin’s two free throws with 39 seconds left finally clinched the victory.
