Share

Concerned by the continued threat of El Nino-related storms, city officials have agreed to spend about $166,000 to bolster emergency response equipment and supplies.

The City Council this week approved the money to buy rescue boats, harbor booms, personal flotation devices and an electric generator for the heliport. Several of these items were damaged during a Dec. 6 storm that flooded low-lying areas.

The public works and community services departments also requested money to pay for beach cleanup and erosion prevention projects. The department will buy 500,000 sandbags for public use. For sandbag information: (714) 536-5223.
