Fleet of Natural-Gas-Powered Buses Hit the Road at UCLA
UCLA inaugurated 11 natural gas buses Thursday to replace the school’s aging fleet of diesel vehicles.
The new buses, which cost $240,000 each to build and seat 33 passengers, will be used for a shuttle service and special events.
In 1997, campus buses carried 1.3 million passengers. The natural-gas-powered fleet is expected to lower operating and maintenance costs.
“Not only are these buses environmentally friendly, they will provide UCLA students, employees and visitors with state-of-the-art, comfortable transportation to get around campus for many years to come,” said Sherry Lewis, UCLA fleet and transit services general manager.
