Long Beach State 93, North Texas 70--Andrew Betts scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the 49ers to the Big West victory before 1,851 at the Pyramid.
“When you go out and the guy guarding you is 6 [feet] 6, it helps your confidence,” said Betts, who is 7-1 and has scored 60 points in the last two games, both Long Beach State victories.
The 36 points was high for a Big West scorer this season, and 23 of those points came in the first half when Long Beach State (7-9, 2-2) countered the Eagles’ long-distance shooting with lobs into Betts, who made eight of nine shots in the first 20 minutes.
He finished with 12 of 16 shooting and made 12 of 15 free throws.
Long Beach State shot 37 free throws, making 25. North Texas (2-12, 1-3) made four of seven free throws.
