“Ana Mendieta: Siluetas” is the Museum of Contemporary Art’s new presentation of photographic work by the Cuban-born artist. Born in Havana in 1948, Mendieta was sent at age 13 to orphanages and foster homes in Iowa as part of the “Peter Pan” flights that relocated Cuban children after the revolution. Like Cindy Sherman (whose exhibition at MOCA ends Sunday), Mendieta uses her body as her instrument, creating performative outdoor sculptural installations (right) that she documents through photography and films.

* “Ana Mendieta: Siluetas,” Museum of Contemporary Art, 250 S. Grand Ave., Los Angeles. Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Thursday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Adults, $6; students and seniors, $4; children under 12 and museum members, free. Ends April 12. (213) 626-6222.

all day: Movies

The New Beverly revival movie house will screen two of master filmmaker Federico Fellini’s paeans to his favorite city, Rome. “Fellini Satyricon” (1970), the iconoclastic director’s take on Petronius’ picaresque tale of ancient Rome, is an eerie mixture of excess and serenity. In “Fellini’s Roma” (1972), Fellini blends tales of his youth with modern sights and sounds. The result is a cornucopia of wonders.
