Boy’s Arm Reattached After Accident

An 8-year-old Arleta boy underwent surgery to reattach his arm Thursday night after a rope coiled around the limb became caught on his mother’s car.

The accident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. in the 9200 block of Cedros Avenue, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis.

“The boy was coiling a half-inch plastic rope around his arm,” Collis said. “The loose end somehow got tangled in the car.”

Collis said that the boy’s mother, who apparently did not see the rope, drove off, and the boy’s arm was torn off about three inches below the shoulder.

The boy was taken by helicopter to the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, Collis said.
