A car carrying six people apparently on their way to catch the sunrise from a popular viewpoint overturned on a main park road early Saturday, killing two children and injuring four people, authorities said.

The car, driven by Henry Gonzales, 42, of San Bernardino, apparently drifted to the side of the road and then rolled over, said a California Highway Patrol dispatcher who declined to be identified.

Bertha Gonzales, 12, and Romulo Gonzales, 6, both of San Bernardino, were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other children, ranging in age from 6 to 13, were injured, the dispatcher said.

Henry Gonzales was treated for a fractured wrist at Desert Regional Medical Center and transferred to Riverside County Medical Center in stable condition.

The man and his young passengers were believed to have been heading to Keys View Overlook to see the sunrise, said park ranger Mary Risser.
