By now, the Kansas City Royals know what they get with Steve Sisco (Thousand Oaks High, Moorpark College). Above all he is versatile, having played every position except pitcher in seven minor league seasons.

But at triple-A Omaha this season, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound Sisco, 28, has displayed unexpected power. He has a career-high 14 home runs in 195 at-bats after hitting only 27 homers in 2,060 at-bats before this season. In June, Sisco hit home runs in six consecutive games.

Following a slow start, he has hiked his batting average to .262 while playing every infield position and left field. Sisco has a .291 average in his career.

The Royals drafted Sisco in the 16th round after he helped Cal State Fullerton to the College World Series final in 1992. He was injured running into a wall in 1995 and missed more than half the season at double-A Wichita, but after putting up good numbers at that level for two seasons, was promoted to Omaha last year at midseason.
