Leave it to Hollywood to redefine the definition of a “strip club.” Now, burlesque has become the theme of choice in Los Angeles’ club world, with couples populating the following nightspots:

Cheetah’s, 4600 Hollywood Blvd., (323) 660-6733. Why are A-list celebrities and rockers hanging at this lowbrow mirrored joint? Because strip clubs are the last vestige of ‘90s naughtiness. 21 and over, occasional cover charge.

Grand Ville at 7969 on Thursdays, 7969 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (323) 654-0281. Nobody does it better than Josh Richman, who emcees this hetero dance club’s midnight strip show like a carnival ringleader on aggro juice. 21 and over, $10 cover.

Jumbo’s Clown Room, 5153 Hollywood Blvd., (323) 666-1187. Why is this seedy old strip club the hot spot of the moment? Looks like sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll are baaaaaack. This club got a new lease on life last year, when it started smuggling in occasional live bands. 21 and over, no cover (one-drink minimum).

Michelle’s Triple X at 7969 on Tuesdays, 7969 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (323) 654-0280. The sexiest lesbian club in the city, where women strip for women and men only speak when spoken to. 21 and over, $10 cover.

Rubber at Key Club on Fridays, 9039 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, (310) 786-1712. Promoters John Huntington and Damian Sanders bring their popular Orange County “super sexual circus” techno dance club to the Sunset Strip, and for Friday’s grand opening gala they’re transforming the Key Club into a plastic-themed Sodom. 21 and over, call for cover.

Sin-A-Matic at 7969 on Saturdays, 7969 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (323) 654-0280. For those who want their dance clubs to come with sexually charged costumes, a fetish room and very loud electronic music, Sin-A-Matic is it. 21 and over, $10 cover.

Sunset Strip, 5214 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, (213) 932-7033. Russian strippers dance to rock from the 1980s in this spacious, low-key nightclub, located in a gnarly strip mall just east of the real Sunset Strip. 21 and over, $8 cover.
