Hillside-Grading Rule Change Rejected
The City Council recently rejected a change to Placentia’s grading and excavation ordinance that would give developers more building space on hilltops.
Council members said they feared changes allowing steeper grades might cause landslides.
While the proposed revision would have allowed a steeper slope, retaining walls would help to stabilize hillsides.
The ordinance revision would have benefited one developer who is proposing to build a condominium project on a steep hill at the northwest corner of Lakeview Avenue and Orchard Drive.
A public hearing will be held on the project, proposed by Oakhill Development Inc. of Newport Beach, at the Aug. 11 Planning Commission meeting.
