Cerritos Standout Sorensen Will Play Baseball for Titans

Matt Sorensen, a community college All-American pitcher last season for Cerritos College, is transferring to Cal State Fullerton.

Sorensen has been the starting quarterback on the Cerritos football team for the last two seasons, but was a member of the Cerritos baseball team only one year. He had a 12-1 record last spring.

“He’ll have three years of baseball eligibility with us,” said Dave Serrano, an assistant coach and the Titan recruiting coordinator. “He has a good arm, and should have a good chance of being one of our four starting pitchers next season.”

Sorensen, who pitched at Downey Warren High, was drafted in the 26th round by the Toronto Blue Jays in June, but has indicated to the Titan coaches he will pitch in college.

“He’s a good one,” Cerritos College Coach Ken Gaylord said. “He hurt his collarbone in football as a freshman and didn’t play baseball that year, but he had a great season for us last year. His best days are ahead of him.”
