Angels Take Esperanza’s Shaffer in 2nd Day of Draft

The Angels selected Esperanza third baseman Josh Shaffer on the second day of the amateur baseball draft Wednesday.

Shaffer, who is preparing with his teammates for Saturday night’s Southern Section Division I championship game at Dodger Stadium, was selected in the first round of the day--Round 26.

The Angels also drafted shortstop Bobby Crosby of La Quinta High in Round 34 and outfielder Bradley Downing, who played at Troy High, Fullerton College and Cal Poly Pomona, in Round 39.

The Dodgers selected one county player, first baseman Brandon Smith (Canyon High/Cypress College) in the 45th round. Canyon first baseman Jason Reuss, son of former major league pitcher and current Angel TV analyst Jerry Reuss, was selected by Arizona in Round 26.

Second baseman Keith Ginter, who played at Fullerton High, Cypress College and Texas Tech, was drafted Tuesday in Round 10 by Houston.
