Laird Will Lead South, Colin Will Play for North

The county’s leading hitter, Gerald Laird, and Sunset League most valuable player Matt Colin, will be two of the top seniors participating in the 31st Kiwanis North-South All-Star baseball game Monday at Cal State Fullerton.

La Quinta’s Laird, who will play for the South, entered Saturday’s Southern Section Division IV baseball championship game against Ocean View with a .647 batting average, seven home runs and 44 runs batted in.

Colin, on the North squad, has had several key hits during the playoffs to help Esperanza reach Saturday’s section Division I final against La Crescenta Crescenta Valley.

Tom Tereschuk of Servite will coach the North, and La Quinta’s Dave Demarest the South.

The South holds a 16-14 advantage in the series. Game time is 7 p.m. Admission is $4.
